I used a program called DALL-E2, which is an A.I. program built to translate text into visuals. I asked it to create a painting of a girl under a trellis in a garden in the style of various famous artists. Below are the other paintings DALL-E2 created. How accurate do you think the program was?
What do you think? How accurate was DALL-E2 in capturing the visual style and artistic vision of these various artists? I imagine that you are either impressed or depressed. You might be fascinated by what the creators of this artificial intelligence program have managed to create or terrified by how accurate A.I. is becoming. Or you may think the program has wildly missed the mark, and you’re happy to see that A.I. still has a long way to go.

The last great “age” in human development is certainly the technological age, with a strong subset being the computer age. We are now moving into the age of artificial intelligence. Like it or not, this is where we are heading. If you are fearful of this development, you are not alone. Even the inventors of A.I. can’t predict where it will lead.
Elsewhere on this blog, I wrote about the use of A.I. in the search for extraterrestrial life. I think this is a benign and appropriate use of A.I. It extends human knowledge using sophisticated algorithms beyond the scope of our brains and does it in lightning speed. However,having A.I. create art, music, books, and term papers is another thing entirely. Recently, a Conservative group created an anti-Biden ad almost entirely with artificial intelligence, and this is where we are headed, too: using A.I. to shape and shift public opinion for political purposes. Never mind term papers. The political use of A.I. is considerably more frightening no matter which political party is behind it.
